Random clothing questions

I am trying to clean out and downsize our children's wardrobes, but the girl scout in me say's keep it all. Sooo......
1. How many outfits do you keep on hand per child, please give their age?
2. How many loads per week of laundry do you do for your children?
3. How much space is each child allotted for clothing, dresser/closet space?
Thanks so much!

  1. Boys for Summer Play:
    4 pairs shorts
    8 shirts or more
    Boys for Summer Church:
    2 Slacks
    4 Button up shirts

    Girls for Summer Play
    4 pairs shorts or capris
    8 shirts or more
    Girls for Summer Church:
    Between 2-6 outfits
This could be dresses or skirts and nice shirts.. the skirts sometimes are worn on calm days... so those are interchangeable between church and play days.

In the winter they have at least the same amount in pants and long sleeve shirts with flannel shirts for the boys and sweaters for the girls thrown in the mix.

There are seasons when I don't have that much on hand because of how quickly they grow. Especially the bigger kids right now, they really need new wardrobes almost entirely.

For the baby, I buy several onesies and will make pinafores to go over them with bloomers.. I intend to make 3 pinafore/bloomer sets. Then about 2 Sunday dresses.

I do between 15-20 loads of laundry per week not just to keep us clothed, but also so that I can see my laundry room...

The girls are sharing a dresser with about 3 drawers a piece, but this isn't going to last much longer as the drawers are packed full. The boys also share a dresser with 3 drawers a piece. The baby has a rubbermaid drawer thing all to herself. This also contains all her blankets, sheets, etc.

  2. As you know I keep everything, for ever. Never know what you'll need, for what occasion, or for whom. Sorry I'm no help with this one.

  3. Keep in mind with your busy schedule you may not always have time to do needed laundry.

  4. I don't have a set number that I aim for and we usually end up with more than we need because of gifts from grandparents. But I do aim to keep enough to only have to do laundry once a week. But that might be the difference between having one kid and having three or more.

Until recently all of Lily's clothes fit into two drawers, but since Ella Kate is getting the changing table/dresser Lily now has her own mini dresser.

  6. I try to have 2 pairs of jeans each, 7-9 shirts each, 7-9 undies each, 5-6 pairs of socks each, 4-5 church/outing quality outfits each. I have their clothing in small baskets. They can only have as many articles of clothing as will fit in the basket 1 1/2 x 2 x 2 size (ish). Dresses hang. I do laundry each day. If it were sectioned out for each individual child, I'd probably do 3 loads per week per child. (We wear things more than once too when we can, that is hard when they are totally filthy from being outside) They are 6,4, &3. (This doesn't count cloth diaper laundry for O) If we get new things or people donate clothing to us, we go through and throw out the lower quality/stained/torn and replace it. We don't just keep adding to the pile. If I find myself drowning in laundry ie: 12 piles unfolded on the couch for 3 days... I get rid of clothing. I'm pretty ruthless. I hate laundry. :)
